The countryside house offers 5 double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and shared areas for rest and relaxation. There are two upstairs terraces which take in some splendid views and provide a great place to have breakfast. The house was actually built from scratch in 2013 and this gave us the chance to incorporate several environmentally-friendly passive solar elements into the design, as well as a geothermal heating and cooling installation. We also have a large open fire place in the main living room. The house was designed and decorated by Iva, and it blends in beautifully with the surrounding olive and fig groves. We have about 60 olive and fig trees on the 5-acre property and these are still harvested every year by the family. Throughout your stay you can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the house and finca as though you are staying with family and friends. In the colder months, relax in front of the roaring log fire in the living room with a good book. In the spring and summer months, meander across the wildflower meadows, have a cold drink on the terrace or a late evening stroll down our 'Yellow Brick Road', and take in the spectacular sunset.
Having traveled the world as an English teacher for the best part of 20 years, I have finally settled in this beautiful part of Spain with my Croatian wife and our three kids. Since 2008, we have devoted all our time to raising the children and integrating ourselves into the local community in and around the charming village of Almoharin. Apart from the endless list of chores around the house and finca, our time is spent taking long walks in the breath-taking countryside around us and exploring the amazing province of Extremadura.
The area is a haven for walking and bird-watching, and every year there are many visitors from all over Europe and beyond taking advantage of the natural, unspoilt beauty of the local area. Of course you also have the historic cities of Caceres, Merida and Trujillo no more than 40-minutes drive away, plus the incredible scenery of the Valle del Jerte about an hour and a half to the north. There is the small village of Almoharin about 10 minutes drive away, which offers basic shops and services, but a must see is the delightful village of Montanchez, about 20 minutes drive from us, which is nationally famous for its Spanish ham.
