I'm a globetrotting Canadian who finally decided to settle in the amazing city of Valencia in 2004. With my partner Eva, a Spanish fashion designer (Sanjhara) and decorator, we bought an old apartment in the heart of the Ruzafa neighbourhood, stripped it bare, renovated it completely with all our heart and soul, and launched our rental property. We're sure you'll love staying here. (Read the comments.) We live in the same neighbourhood, just 5 minutes away, and will be delighted to meet you and introduce you to your home while you stay in Valencia. However, like you, we love to travel so there may be times when we can't meet you personally, but we'll always be available by telephone.
In recent years, Ruzafa has transformed from a seedy zone to be avoided to become the most happening neighbourhood in the city. While it may not have the beauty (or the mass tourism) of el Carmen neighbourhood, here you'll find a sense of community where you can experience "real Valencia", with the highest concentration of cafés, restaurants, terraces and bars in the city, not to mention trendy clothing stores, artists studios, theatres and, thankfully, nowhere to buy postcards, yet. It's an 8 minute walk from the train station, 10 minutes from the main shopping zone of the city and 15 minutes from the historic el Carmen neighbourhood. There are bus stops all over the neighbourhood, but to explore Ruzafa and surrounding areas you just need your feet. You can reach the most interesting sites of Valencia in 20 minutes or less on foot. The closest metro station (which can take you to/from the airport) is about an 8 minute walk from the apartment. You can catch a bus to the beach from a stop less than five minutes from the apartment. It is very easy to find a taxi in the street.
