This has been a labour of love to create an interesting, well designed home for modern family living. We have used lots of reclaimed materials from other old houses and some antique finds to create a home with all the creature comforts you would hope to find in a home from home but with lots of touches of interest from the local area and Morocco. The house is very secluded and quiet yet in a great location to explore many many fabulous unspoilt beaches and old towns. We lived here for a year and are still finding new places so there is lots to uncover which we can also help with depending on your preferences.
We have young children so making this house family friendly has been key for us and we use the house ourselves as much as we can, often with another family or two as it can comfortably accommodate 14-15 people with the separate casita (guest house). We are English but lived in the region for a year and return as often as school term times and busy jobs allow us to. We are very lucky to have fantastic neighbours in this quiet neighbourhood, one of which manages the property for us and also works in the hospitality sector themselves. They are fantastic hosts and can give you as much or as little guidance as you wish in any one of five languages.
We fell in love with this area as it's still very unspoilt and English is not widely spoken except in some of the restaurants. There are lovely old towns to explore, including Vejer which the house gazes towards, but also some hidden beaches still off the track of the tourist trails. In the summer season you find some excellent chiringitos (temporary restaurants) on the beach which serve great food with your toes in the sand and the ocean breeze in your face. Because this is the atlantic the area has cool breezes and even in the hottest days of the year, you can be cool by the sea. On occasion there are strong winds from Africa, much to the delight of some of the expert kite surfers down the road in Tarifa, but the house is fantastically shielded from the wind direction so you can easily sit on the terrace out of the wind or still have a game of ping pong in the court yard at the back of the house. It's very relaxed as an area and the beach vibe in el palmar is quite surfy and very family friendly with lots of bars and restaurants to watch the sun set from. Vejer is probably a little smarter or sophisticated and there surrounding villages have amazing restaurants to explore.
